Jellyfish attack Brazil
Jellyfish attack Brazil
An army of jellyfish stung around 300 swimmers in a southeastern beach city in Brazil. The swimmers were attempting to cool off from the city heat wave.
Fifteen people at most were treated in Praia Grande for severe stings, though, luckily their lives were not in danger. Fire Captain Atila Gregorio Ribeiro Pereira said the jellyfish were Portuguese man-of-war, which possess long tentacles, but aren’t too dangerous unless the victim has an allergic reaction.
Many of those injured were treated and released the same day. Authorities blamed the severe heat wave over the southeaster region for the huge swarm in Praia Grande’s shallow waters.
