JFK baggage handlers accused of stealing jewelry
Two baggage handlers at JFK airport were charged with stealing more than $250,000 worth of jewelry and diamonds.
Prosecutors from Queens said this week that a 51-year-old worker and his 39-year-old supervisor are officially charged with possession of stolen property and grand larceny. The jewelry was stolen last week from a container which indicated “high value” and was being shipped from Switzerland to Brazil.
Police have stated that the supervisor broke the seals on the container and gave away three boxes of jewelry to his other worker. The worker then concealed the jewelry in his jacket and then placed it in his locker at an American Airlines terminal, where investigators later found it.
