Fire on The Strip
Fire on The Strip
A fire on the rooftop of the Monte Carlo hotel-casino in Las Vegas occurred today around 11 a.m. No injuries were reported and firefighters swiftly contained the blaze. The fire spread from the top center of the building across the roof.
Investigators are currently trying to determine if the fire had just simply burned the resort’s exterior or penetrated into the upper floor rooms. No immediate indication of criminal activity or arson is apparent. Clark County Fire Chief, Steve Smith called it an external fire and that heat and smoke ignited alarms and sprinklers inside the building.
Eyewitnesses are surprised that business is being conducted as usual. When the alarm rang, hotel workers got people out quickly and smoothly. Everyone has been evacuated and transferred to MGM Grand.
Since the horrendous MGM Grand fire in 1980, hotels have made it a point to be extremely prepared for such emergencies. The 1980 fire killed more than 80 people, and so it isn’t surprising that a fire plan was in place.
