Denver and Vail Offer Deals to Attract More Visitors
Monday, February 2nd, 2009
One would think that the Denver area has it made as a tourist destination. Summer brings opportunities for trekking and outdoor activities and winter brings skiers and snowboarders.
This year there are worries about the poor state of the national travel industry causing the city and its environs to suffer a down tourist season. Like other major destinations, Denver is trying to draw tourists with special deals and promotions. Many of these are aimed at tourists in the mountain region looking for a weekend getaway. But anyone can take advantage or combine the promotions with other activities such as skiing or perhaps a stop-over on the way to Las Vegas or California.
Some of the Mile High City’s hotels offered a special rate for the months of December and January. The price was $52.80 per night. That’s a reference to the city’s elevation of 5,280 feet. For many hotels , that is a more than 50% decrease in price. Many of the area’s restaurants and bars are getting on the spirit with nightly specials also.
Vail, whose tourist industry is even more tied to ski season than Denver, is also trying to draw tourists with price cuts. Rooms are typically sold out for the holiday season. Some ski resorts in the area are still 30% vacant. For the first time in recent memory, Vail is launching an advertising campaign about its ski resorts and special deals. Over 100 resorts and hotels have banded together to cut their prices and draw customers to the area. This is a unique situation because most years Colorado ski cities usually have to turn away customers because of full hotels and overcrowded slopes.
For those seeking a ski trip that won’t be too hard on the budget, this is the year to visit the Denver area.
