When not to travel

When not to travel

Pretty safe to say that you shouldn't travel on Memorial Day, Spring Break, Thanksgiving and the Fourth of July. The rule of supply and demand, doesn't benefit travelers one bit. Acquiring frequent flier miles is impossible, hotels won't discount any of their rooms, and you're more than likely to pay full price for your rental car. What's more, lines, gridlock traffic and high-tempered travelers with the same frustrations as you. Here are some other times to stay off the road and away from the air.

1) Stay clear from Denver from August 25 to 28 and Minneapolis/St. Paul from September 1 to 4. These cities are hosting the Democratic and Republic conventions. It's literally insane; there's super tight security, crowds of protesters and delegates and no open tables at restaurants.

2) Don't forget about hurricane season in June through November, with peak season in late summer and early fall. Mark Florida, Louisiana, and the Caribbean or anywhere along the Atlantic coast of the U.S. as no-travel-zones. The Midwest has tornadoes in the summer and powerful thunderstorms are sure to spring up. Blizzards during the winter can also affect your travels anytime between November and March, except if you're in Florida or Texas.

3) Keep up with the latest travel news like, Lowfares Travel News Daily . This past summer Northwest Airlines faced some labor problems, as did Air France in the fall. As a result, Northwest was forced to cancel hundreds of flights that left passengers stranded and at the carrier's mercy as airline contracts don't protect passengers in the event of a strike. Following the news could stop you from booking a flight with a carrier under trouble. You could also find a good travel agent that should be well versed in current traveling conditions.
