Heavy storms in the Northeast on Friday have caused a whirlwind of delays at airports in the New York area.
The National Weather Service recently reported that six inches of snow have built up in the New York metropolitan area. JFK International Airport, LaGuardia and Newark International Airport anticipate arrival delays of at least 2 ½ hours. Incoming flights at JFK were nearly 4 hours late.
American Airlines canceled 188 flights-about 8 percent of all its Northeast operations. The bulk of JetBlue cancellations Friday were for New York flights between the hours of 11 a.m. and 3 p.m.
The National Weather Service commented that the Northeast snow will continue into the afternoon but warmer winds later in the day should change the snow to cold rain and sleet.
