Think Green for Your Next Getaway

Traveling green means back packing through the wilderness, eating granola or living off the land. Although that is one way to travel green, it is not the only way. The travel industry has gotten wind of the hot trend of green (plus the money saving benefits) and has jumped on board. Now you can find a green vacation in just about ever venue that might be of interest.
Hotels have gone green and they come in all shapes, sizes and budgets. Many of the green accommodations are in exotic locations - on the beach or in the mountains - and provide the same amazing views and luxury amenities that you would find at any traditional hotel. One uses a key card system that automatically shuts off the power to a room when the guests leave and then turns the power back on when they return. Others use low-flow toilets, energy-efficient light bulbs and even organic bathroom products.
The cruise industry is also going green. It is working hard to clean up its image by turning from a history of little concern for the environment to a future that is focused on being environmentally conscious. Many cruise ships actively recycle all different waste products. They donate cooking grease to organic farms and even using special window tinting to help reduce the load placed on the air conditioners on board. Some are spending time evaluating cruise times so that they can get the best fuel efficiency while out to sea.
Going green does not have to mean rouging it any more. The travel industry understands the consumer concern for the environment and has stepped up to meet that concern. There are eco-tours, eco-friendly accommodations and so many more opportunities for doing the green thing when you make plans for your next getaway.
