What to Pack for a Spring Cruise
Tuesday, April 21st, 2009
1. Formal attire. Take at least two formal ensembles on board, even if it's just a short cruise. You may want to attend at least one or two formal functions held each evening, and these usually have a strict dress code.
2. Sunscreen and sun block. Whether you're heading to Hawaii or the Caribbean, protect your skin from harmful UV rays with plenty of sunscreen and sun block. Pack extra bottles and sprays because these can be very expensive on the cruise ship's convenience stores.
3. Resort wear. From light linen capris to simple short-sleeve tees, plan for the resort lifestyle when you're heading off on your cruise. Bulky cotton pants, heavy jeans and thick cotton shirts can stay at home; these will probably make you uncomfortable and put you at risk for overheating.
4. A visor or sun hat. If you plan on lounging by the pool or relaxing on the deck most of the day, you'll need to cover up with a sun hat or visor. Couple these with a pair of sunglasses to ward off harmful sun rays all day long.
5. Comfortable sandals. Pick a pair of sandals that are comfortable enough to walk in for hours because you may be doing some sightseeing and exploring at your destination. Avoid heavy tennis shoes, dark-colored pumps and boots at all costs; you need to wear light and versatile pieces from head to toe.
