New York City Open for Business

Wednesday, May 6th, 2009

New York, New York has been working hard over the last few months to keep tourism alive in the Big Apple.  The recent outbreak of swine flu that has traveled from Mexico to several states around the United States (including New York) has made the struggle even more difficult.

Despite having some of the first (and most) cases of the H1N1 Influenza, New York City is encouraging visitors to continue to make travel plans to visit.  Officials want travelers from around the world to know that New York is open for business.

The majority of the cases of the H1N1 Influenza outbreak in New York have been traced back to a single school.  St. Francis Preparatory in Queens had been closed for several days to help curb the spread of the swine flu.  Even the school has reopened for classes.

Most experts are predicting that the outbreak has not hurt vacation travel or business travel to New York.  But the tourism industry is taking few chances and is actively promoting the safety of travel to New York.

There had been some talk that New York could be endanger of more cases because of the tight quarters of the city and the public transportation system.  The first sign of H1N1 caused officials to take serious precautions and the result is that almost all cases of the H1N1 Influenza can be traced to the same source.

Health officials are still recommending that people be cautious.  If you are sick then you should stay home.  Wash your hands regularly and cough or sneeze into your sleeve.  Some countries are still restricting travel to any countries that have had cases of the H1N1 Influenza.  This is one of the main reasons that New York City wants to get the word out that the Big Apple is safe and is ready to entertain you.
