Things to do in New York City in the Summer

We've received a lot of positive feedback once we posted our "Things to Do in ..." article. We decided to keep up the momentum and institute a weekly article devoted to this particular topic. Plan to see similar articles every Monday just for you. Please enjoy!

New York City is one that never sleeps. There is always an event, celebration or adventure that can be enjoyed somewhere in the city or surrounding community. The summer months may get warm, but it doesn't slow down the activities in New York.

Start the summer off right with a tribute to the Sailors, Marines and Coast Guardsmen of the United States. Fleet Week has been hosted in New York almost every year since 1984. The event gives visitors a glimpse into military life at see through demonstrations, displays and tours.

The Belmont Stakes is the final leg of the Triple Crown. The race has offered many historic moments in the racing world, including Secretariat's 31 length victory in 1973. The race has not produced a Triple Crown winner since 1978.

Mid-June the city is filled with R&B. The J&R's Summerfest event brings together some of the top performers in this musical genre for free concerts in City Hall Park. This three day even is a wonderful time for the whole family.

Tap City is the New York City Tap Festival held each summer. This nine day event features classes, training and performances throughout the city. You can come to participate or to enjoy the amazing talent that will fill the festival.

The Harlem Jazz & Music Festival offers some of the most dynamic performances from artists across the globe. You'll enjoy local offerings as well as some from places as far away as Africa and Japan. There are also fashion shows, symposiums and much more entertainment for the whole family.

New York activities and events never seem to slow down, which is probably one of the reasons is it called the "City that Never Sleeps." There are plenty of summer events to keep you going through the hot, humid days of summer.
