Time Travel in Tennessee

Tuesday, May 19th, 2009

Time is running out for your chance to go back in time.  The Tennessee Renaissance Festival is in its final few weekends but there is still time for you to come and experience 16th Century England.  Skilled Artisans come from all over the country to display there skills and to sale their wares.  The last weekend of the amazing event is May 23, 24 and also Memorial Day - May 25th.

This annual event is held around Castle Gwynne which is the creation of Mike Freeman.  He started with sketches of the castle back in 1970 and began constructing the first tower in 1980.  Tours of the castle are included in the price of admission.  This year the tour will also include the Rose-Dan Freeman Collection of Weaponry and needlework and tapestries of the Imogene Stone Collection.  One day admission is $18.00 for adults, $6.00 for children ages 6 - 12.  Weekend passes are also available.

Memorial Day Weekend is a great time to visit the fair.  It is the time of the International Jousting Tourney where fully armored athletes from around the world compete in real jousting events.  You can also enjoy a live chess match - complete with sword fighting.  Each day also offers other family friendly entertainment options.

The castle and The Tennessee Renaissance Festival are held in Arrington, Tennessee between Franklin and Murfreesboro.  The area is easy to reach from 1-24, 1-65 or 1-840.  Visitors that plan to enjoy the festival for the entire weekend will find accommodations in nearby Franklin, Tennessee or Murfreesboro, Tennessee.

Taking a step back in time is a great way to spend some time with the family.  There is so much to do and so many things to experience that you will likely make this annual event a regular getaway for your family as well.
