Top Clean Cities in the United States
Top Clean Cities in the United States
Clean cities are not just a great place to live, but they are also nice places to live. There are several polls that rank the cities in the United States and around the world for different aspects of cleanliness. Although many of the polls rely on technical data (like pollution output, contaminants in the water and air or other similar measurements) some of them rely on prevention methods.
Cities are getting their acts together when it comes to the presentation they give visitors and residents alike. Billions of dollars are being spent to clean up water ways, prevent contamination and to create land use plans designed to enhance the health of the ecology, economy and people.
Amazingly, the polls don't seem to agree on much when it comes to the Cleanest Cities. These same polls were much more aligned when it came to the Dirtiest Cities. Here are some of the cities that did manage to make their way on to one or more of the polling lists.
• Orlando, Florida is not just the home to Mickey Mouse, but it also has some of the lowest ozone and air pollution levels in the country.
• Portland, Oregon has been spending precious time and money in an effort to clean up the water and other conditions in the city.
• San Francisco, California scores high on the lists for waste management spending and water quality.
• Jacksonville, Florida was one of the few major cities to consistently rank in the top ten for all categories of cleanliness.
There are a number of ways to determine the cleanliness of a city. The major polls look at measurable tabulations (water quality and air quality) along with programs that have been established to ensure future and present cleanliness. Keeping things clean and healthy is a good way to increase tourism and to make conditions pleasant for residents as well.
