San Antonio Comes Alive With the Texas Folklife Festival
Monday, June 8th, 2009
The event is modeled aver the Smithsonian's Folklife Festival by O.T. Backer. Proceeds from the event are given back to those groups that participate to help keep the different cultures alive in the region. The first Texas Folklife Festival was held in 1972. It showcases the music, dance, food and crafts of the different cultures.
The Texas Folklife Festival is celebrating its 38th year. It is a great getaway for the entire family. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn how to clog, make pickles and preserves and listen to some of the best storytellers in all of Texas. Kids will be thrilled to know that spitting is a competition (and have a chance to show their own stuff in the Luling watermelon Thump). There are just no limits to the fun and entertainment that the Texas Folklife festival offers.
Hours for the event are from 5pm to 11pm on Friday, June 12; 11 am to 11 pm on Saturday, June 13; and 12 pm to 7 pm on Sunday, June 14. One day tickets are $12 for those 12 and older ($10 in advance) and $6 for kids from 3 to 11. Kids 2 and under can get in for free. Three day passes are $25 for those 12 and up. Festival currency must be purchased to buy food and beverages in the festival.
The Texas Folklife Festival is conveniently located in downtown San Antonio, Texas. The event is just one more reason to make Texas your next family getaway.
