Paper Free Travel on Air China

Traveling under the best of circumstances can be a hassle.  Longer lines at security, more fees from airlines and ever more restrictions just adds to the frustration that many travelers are feeling these days.  Air China is working to ease the discomfort of travel.  The airline has launched a check in system that will give domestic passengers easier access to flights.

The new SMS check-in service makes check in a breeze for domestic passengers that have booked e-tickets.  Consumers will now be able to check in for their flight using SMS on their mobile phones.  Check in can happen any where from 24 hours before the flight to 90 minutes before schedule take-off.

There are some limitations to the new SMS check-in.  The tickets must be purchased through the Air China website and the mobile phone check-in option will have to be chosen at the time of purchase.  Tickets must direct domestic flights from Beijing and not include any Tibetan routes.  Passengers that need special help or have certain needs may not be eligible for the SMS check-in.

Passengers that choose the SMS check-in at the time of purchase will receive a text message that includes a link to the Air China website.  The link will lead to a sign up sight that will then send a bard code and e-boarding pass to the cell phone.  Passengers will still have to go through the regular security procedures.

The new SMS check-in is not just a benefit to the Air China passengers.  The new system is completely paperless.  This means less stress on the environment and green friendly travel options.  The goal is to make the whole process - from purchase to boarding - one that is done electronically for easier access by passengers.  The reduction of a paper trail could also translate into savings in the long run for all travelers.
