Bowie, Texas was incorporated in 1883 and took its name from the Texas hero of the Alamo, Jim Bowie.  It was also chosen as a symbol of the early pioneers whose spirit and tenacity helped carve out the West so it should be no surprise that Bowie is considered to be the heart of cowboy country.  Bowie is located in the northern portion of the State of Texas in Montague County.
