Dr. Stephen Leatherman has earned his reputation as America's 'Dr. Beach', a beach-loving enthusiast who claims that many people can get healthy, be more well rested and restore themselves simply by spending more time in sunny and sandy territory. The doctor has spent over 20 years studying the effects of living on and spending time on the beach, and encourages America to take a deep breath of (salty) air and restore their health. His most recent top ten list of the best beaches reveal key places to book your beach vacation; here are just a few of Dr. Beach's top picks:

Caladesi Island State Park, Florida

Named the #1 beach for 2008, Caladesi Island on Florida's west coast features white sand shores, sand dunes and a marina that's perfect for boating enthusiasts. With over three miles of nature trails and kayak rental opportunities, this could be an ideal place for your summer vacation.

Hamoa Beach, Maui, Hawaii

Coronado Beach, San Diego
