How to Get Through Security Efficiently

With even more requirements and security checks on the rise at major airports, getting through the TSA checkpoint can put a dent in your travel schedule. Getting through the security line now requires you to pass laptops and other electronic devices separately through the scanner, take off all shoes, coats, belts and accessories, and make sure your carry on luggage is free of any liquids and cosmetics. If that wasn't enough, you also need to make sure your travel documents are available and ready to go, and that you have enough security bins to manage all of your belongings.

In most cases, you're juggling dozens of items at once; here are some tips on getting through those security gates efficiently, and hassle-free:

1. Put your travel documents in your back pocket. You'll need your boarding pass, passport and driver's license handy so keep them tucked into your back pocket to avoid losing them as you get organized.

2. Push your items through the conveyor belt. The trays will not automatically move through the checking system, so a slight nudge is all it takes to help you speed on through.

3. Skip the water bottles and drinks. You won't be able to take anything larger than a 3 oz. container of liquid through the boarding area, so forget about topping off that water bottle or taking a bottled drink on board.

4. Avoid over packing the carry on. Take only the items you need for the flight, and pack everything else in your suitcase. This will reduce the need for an in-depth security check that can hold you up.

5. Empty your pockets early. You'll need to empty all of your pockets of change and other items, so why not do this ahead of time and avoid wasting time at the gate? Put all the change and other items into your carry-on so they can be checked in one go.
