Roosevelt Hotel Reopens After Katrina's Destruction

Roosevelt Hotel, New OrleansThe Roosevelt Hotel in downtown New Orleans has reopened its doors four years after Hurricane Katrina and is returning to 'business as usual' for the thousands of business and leisure travelers that once made the city a prime travel destination. The renovation cost approximately $145 million and the fund were used to restore the basement, purchase new mechanical equipment and restore many of the windows and rooms that were completely destroyed from the hurricane and floods.

New Orleans is still recovering from the effects of Hurricane Katrina, and many hotels, restaurants and local businesses remain closed to this day. Four years after the natural disaster, properties such as The Roosevelt Hotel are hoping to profit from the re-emergence of the tourism industry in New Orleans and reclaiming their regular guests.

The Roosevelt Hotel http://www.therooseveltneworleans.com/ is a Hilton property and is one of the historical destinations in New Orleans. It was built in 1923 and was originally named the Grunwald Hotel. The hotel became a popular destination for politicians and wealthy business men who frequented the city, and grew to become a prime destination for celebrities and wealthy guests over the years. Today, the venue hosts a number of jazz concerts and special events, and with its proximity to major attractions, is also a hotel-of-choice for leisure travelers. The Roosevelt Hotel is located on 123 Baronne Street, within walking distance to the Red Fish Grill on Bourbon Street, the New Orleans Saenger Theatre, and a few blocks from Lafayette Square.

Rooms at the Roosevelt Hotel start at $149 per night, and suites starting at $550 per night. The venue is home to The Blue Room where many jazz concerts and live entertainment acts are performed, and also the Sazerac Bar, famous for its signature cocktails. The recently-restored hotel has maintained much of its ornate detailing and fixtures from the original property, and guests can book overnight and extended stays online.
