CDC Updates International Travel Health Guidebook
Friday, August 21st, 2009
Thousands of Americans travel overseas for business and leisure, and approximately half a million also travel overseas to receive certain types of medical care. However, not all travelers are up-to-date on rules and regulations for traveling with medication, standard treatment procedures of foreign doctors, or the types of vaccinations they need before they can head to exotic destinations such as India, Costa Rica, Tanzania and Africa amongst others. Travelers heading overseas for business or leisure purposes may not be aware of all the drug-vaccine requirements of a particular destination.
The latest addition of the CDC Health Information for International Travel includes current information about vaccinations required for different destinations, tips for dealing with jet lag, international adoption laws, and tips for staying safe and healthy on cruise ships. Readers can learn about rules and regulations of hundreds of exotic locales and weigh the health risks of each destination before booking their flight.
The CDC has also added new sections to the guidebook so travelers can locate a doctor at an international destination with ease, and find up-to-date information about vaccines and immunizations needed for specific destinations. The latest edition is the most comprehensive guide to date, and includes important information about swine flu symptoms and destinations with a high risk of outbreaks. The book covers issues related to travel and mental health, post-travel illnesses, common symptoms of various diseases and health problems, and information about medications when traveling overseas.
