Things to do in Seattle, Washington in the Summer
Seattle, Washington may be known for being one of the wettest major cities in the United States but it has much more to offer residents and visitors than wet umbrellas. The summer months are especially packed with special events and activities that the whole family can enjoy.
It may not be the first thing that you think of when you are picturing family fun, but the wet and slimy banana slug is cause for celebration. Slug Fest is a 25 year tradition that is held in late June. The event centers around the Pacific Northwest's Banana Slug. There are plenty of sluggish activities including slug school, slug races, and even slug bingo. The real treats are the edible treats, but you'll have to experience that to believe it.
Seattle is invaded by pirates in July. The Seafair Pirates Landing is the perfect place to celebrate the swashbuckling days of ole. The event offers live entertainment, great food and plenty of fun for the whole family.
The Chevrolet Cup and Keybank Air Show is one of the best summer events anywhere around. The roar of the Unlimited Hydroplanes racing around the course or the jet engines of the U.S. Navy Blue Angels will mark this event in your memory forever. This three day event offers free admission on Friday. Active military and children under 12 are free for the entire weekend. The event Saturday ends with fireworks and a concert.
The Seattle Outdoor Theater Festival is another great free event offered in the city. The weekend event features several of Shakespeare's greatest productions and offers two full days of wonderful entertainment.
There are plenty of things to do in and around Seattle during the summer months. Despite its reputation for being a soggy city, the weather in Seattle makes it a great place to spend the summer season.
