JetBlue Airways Reduces Fees for Passengers Affected by Hurricane Bill
Tuesday, August 25th, 2009
JetBlue has offered to make travel arrangements and reduce fees for all customers who booked a flight to or from Bermuda on the weekend when Hurricane Bill made its way across the ocean. Passengers were permitted to change their flight to any other flight between the same cities through the earlier part of the following week without having to pay the heavy fees associated with itinerary changes. All the changes to the itinerary had to be made before the date and time of the original scheduled departure.
JetBlue Airways is the first airline to introduce a fee reduction for passengers who have had to postpone their flight to or from Bermuda because of Hurricane Bill. Other airlines have failed to follow suit and are still imposing fees and charges on passengers who choose to rebook. Many airlines are still flying to the Caribbean and other destinations on the East coast, but may be delayed for several hours to wait out the stormy weather and effects of Hurricane Bill.
Still, passengers who experience extensive delays for their flight or have a cancellation, are eligible for certain perks and discounts including complimentary meals at the airport, overnight stays at area hotels, free upgrades to a later flight, and priority service and seating for flights booked after the initially scheduled trip. Under certain circumstances, some airlines also offer complimentary airfare or certificates for future flights with the same airline.
