Frontier Airlines Increases Baggage Fees
Wednesday, September 16th, 2009
The Denver-based airline will still be honoring its free checked baggage policy for its Classic and Classic Plus travelers. These travelers can take up to two checked bags on any flight free of charge.
Frontier Airlines is now among the several airlines in the United States to increase baggage fees in an effort to generate more revenue per traveler during the troubled economy. United and Delta Airlines have already increased baggage fees across the board in an attempt to recover significant losses from the reduced demand in travel. The airline has been reorganizing its operations in order to avoid bankruptcy, and is expected to become a subsidiary of Republic Airways by October 1, 2009.
In the midst of all these changes, Frontier Airlines is offering an attractive option for travelers who need to change their tickets. Travelers that need to make adjustments to Economy tickets or switch to a different flight that departs on the same day can do so for a fee of $100, not $150 as was previously imposed. This may encourage more travelers to remain with Frontier Airlines if they need to modify their itinerary, and will reduce their fees by $50 per ticket.
The increased baggage fees will go into effect on October 1, 2009 and will be applicable to all tickets purchased on Tuesday, September 1, 2009 onwards for travel beginning on October 1, 2009. Travelers who purchased tickets for travel before October 1, 2009 will be paying the previous baggage fees of $15 for the first bag and $25 for the second bag.
