Disney Dream Ship Added to Disney Cruise Line Fleet

Thursday, September 17th, 2009

The Disney Dream ship recently underwent its keel laying ceremony after several years of design work was completed. The ceremony included the placing of the golden coin under the keel to symbolize good fortune, and Captain Tom Forberg, the first crew member hired for the Disney Cruise Line, was called upon to do the honors.

The Disney Dream is now scheduled to join the current Disney Cruise Line fleet in 2011, and will be followed by the Disney Fantasy in 2012. These two ocean liners are luxury ships that will have double the capacity of the standard fleet. The Disney Dream has been created by the Walt Disney Imagineering team and Disney Cruise Line designers to create a magical masterpiece that represents Disney’s unique heritage and company ideals.

The Disney Dream will operate from Port Canaveral, Florida, and will be accompanied by the building of a special Disney terminal that will be an extension of the existing dock. The state-of-the-art terminal will include a multi-level parking structure with Disney enhancements, and is designed to help guests make the transition from their Disney vacation to their ocean excursion.

In addition to unveiling the Disney Dream ship next year, Disney Cruise Lines plans to expand its itineraries through 2010 to include destinations in Spain, North Africa, the island nation of Malta, and historic cities in Northern Europe. Other ports on the itinerary are located in Italy and France, Germany, Russia, Copenhagen and Stockholm.

More Disney Cruise line itineraries will be revealed at the D23 EXPO in September 2011 at the Anaheim Convention Center in California. The D23 Expo has been named the ‘Ultimate Disney Fan Experience’ that will feature the Disney Legends Awards, a Hallmark Artist Signing, previews and panel discussions of Disney 3D movies, and meet-and-greets with famous cartoonists and cast members.
