New Year's Eve at top city destinations

The enormous glistening ball that descends on Time Square isn't the only happening thing to do on New Year's Eve. Here's a short list of what other great cities have to offer. They might just be around the corner from you.

Other midnight descends: in Key West, Florida a truly fabulous drag queen sitting in a gigantic red high-heel shoe at the Bourbon Street Pub, and a pirate wench at the apex of a tall Liberty Clipper ship at the Seaport. And don't miss out on a 6-foot-tall man made conch that drops to the roof of Sloppy Joe's bar.

In Atlanta, there's the 19th annual Peach drop which features an 800 pound fiberglass peach. Music and entertainment are held in Underground Atlanta, and after the descend fireworks and confetti burst through the night sky. Country singer Miranda Lambert will also be there entertaining the crowd. The party starts at noon and continues on till 4 a.m.

Festivities in New Orleans begin at 8:30 p.m. at Jackson Square. A lit gumbo pot descends at midnight from the Jax Brewery. Fireworks erupt and the party continues in the nearby French Quarter till the early morning.
