Security inconsistencies, long lines, and the did you really have to go there pat-down. These frustrations and constant complaints make the nation's airport security agency about as popular as meter maids.
The TSA tied with despised tax collectors in popularity ranking among a dozen other executive branch agencies.
The AP poll, administered Monday through Wednesday discovered that the more people travel, the less and less they like the TSA. However it also found that 53% of travelers think they do a very or somewhat good job.
Inconvenience of security sat at the top of the list of complaints. TSA officials are sympathetic to peoples' frustration and are continuing to find ways to lessen difficulties. Although it can be a nuisance, airport screening is critical as reports still show aviation remains a high target for terrorists.
Nearly 9,000 complaints were submitted into the TSA between January and October this year. A professor from NYU said he's not surprised that the TSA and IRS are tied for low public reverence, but defended the TSA as misunderstood since it's highly visible and can't brag about its successes.
